Nike Woman's Marathon 2013

Sunday, October 20, 2013

Had to wake up at 3:30 am because we had to leave my cousin's
house by 4:30 am from SJ to get to SF to make it in time
for the Marathon.
I had less than 3 hours of sleep and ran a half marathon (13.1 miles)
and drove for SF back home to Stockton.
Crazy.. LOL..
Can't believe I didn't nap yet.. I just got home and got all showered up
and now I'm typing on my blog.

We arrived at SF around 5:30am
and probably started our run at about 7-7:30am.
Finished at around 11am. LOL..
Yeah I didn't train for this marathon..
But I do like sightseeing and taking pictures.
It's a fun experience and also challenging esp.
if you didn't train.
But a lot of people walk so it's all good.
We ran up to the 5th mile then started walking
and jogging a bit.. walking most of the time.
It wasn't as family oriented as it was the last time I ran,
which was in 2011.
We didn't really stay together.. It was my brother my cousin and my niece
that went this year.
We ended up leaving my brother behind..
which made me feel really sad..
We're suppose to be running together..
and no one should get left behind..
That's why when I got to the finish line.. I wasn't too excited
because we all didn't finish together.
I don't really care so much about time for this event,
I mainly care about sticking together and enjoying everyone's presence.
It was just kinda lonely leaving my brother behind..
because I know I wouldn't wanna be running a half marathon alone..
It's pretty lonely..

When I went back in 2011,
we all stuck together.
When one would stop or slow down we all would stop and slow
down with them.
We started together and ended together.
That was the part I really enjoyed..

This years marathon wasn't as cracking or pumped as the last time I went..
Not a lot of music, although there was a lot of people cheering,
there were screens of us and more posters
saying "I run to be sexy.. bad ass"
it wasn't as energetic as it use to be..
Overall, it was still fun, and glad I ran.
The only reason why I run is for my brother ERIC.
I probably wouldn't run if it wasn't for him.
That's why I wanted all of us to stick together,
because it's suppose to be a family thing.

But yea. It was a really cold marathon this year.
My legs started to hurt towards the last couple miles.
afterwards we crossed the finish line finally!
This marathon seemed a lot faster than the one I ran 2 years ago.
Maybe because I was familiar with the route.
We got a Tiffany's Necklace,  a finisher's shirt, and snacks and a water bottle
from Whole Foods.

Then we took pictures without my bro.. which was again
kinda sad for me.. I wanted all of us to end together.

We the ate at this fancy Thai restaurant called Osha,
then parted ways with my cousins Eileen from there,
and the three of us headed back home.

Running for Time isn't always as memorable
as running together as a family.

Although I do want to beat my time, and I knew I had the stamina
to run more, getting a fast time wasn't important to me..
it's about sticking together since we were running it
for my older brother who passed away from Leukemia
I feel more accomplished finishing together.
